What is Shan Koe Mee?
Shan Koe Mee is one of the most popular card games in Myanmar. The game uses a standard 52-card deck and each player competes directly against the Dealer.
The main goal is to get your card total as close to 9 as possible. A total of 9 or nearest to 9 wins, and if the total exceeds 9, only the ones digit counts. The game blends skill and luck, making it a favourite among Myanmar players at birthdays, festivals, and gatherings.
Players from cities like Yangon enjoy this game for everyday entertainment, and since it is available online at mr98, they can keep playing from anywhere.

To play Shan Koe Mee well, you need to understand the basic rules below.

Dealing Cards
Each player and the Dealer are dealt 3 cards. After the deal, you can decide to stand or draw based on your cards.
Check after dealHow wins and losses are decided
If your total is higher than the Dealer's, you win. If it is equal, the Dealer wins (tie goes to the Dealer). Getting 8 or 9 as a natural lets you reveal immediately and can pay up to 10x.
Natural WinHow to place bets
Set your bet amount before the cards are dealt. A win pays 1:1. A natural Koe Mee (9) can pay more. Side bets may also be available.

In some versions, players can reveal 1 card at a time to decide, or play in a format where all 3 cards are revealed at once. Multiple versions are available on mr98.
Multi-versionStrategies players should learn
Shan Koe Mee relies on luck, but a good understanding and solid strategy help you make better decisions. Try applying the strategies below.
- If you reveal 1 card and the total is 7 or 8, stop as early as you can — any extra cards drawn are likely to cause a loss
- If the total is 4 or below, draw again and aim for a total of 7–9
- Only enter side bets once you have set a firm budget
- Manage your bankroll carefully and set a loss limit for each session in advance
- If you lose 3–5 times in a row, take a break and come back next session
- Check the dealer's revealed card before deciding whether to draw or stand
Keep in mind that these strategies are not 100% guaranteed, but they can reduce losses over longer sessions.
